Dr. William Garrahan (1991)
Dr. Garrahan had dedicated more than 18 years of his life to CCRI Athletics. His official role was orthopedic consultant, but he did so much more than that. He was one of the biggest fans and boosters of CCRI athletics, being a member of the college’s foundation and gave thousands upon thousands of hours helping injured student athletes. He was an integral part of CCRI’s “athletic family”. Dr. Garrahan achieved plenty of accolades such as, becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was a very well-respected surgeon, serving as Chief of the Kent Country Medical Staff and President of the Kent County Medical Society and President of the Rhode Island Orthopedic Society. Later on in his life, he found a passion for Senior Track and Field, competing against US and International Olympians, he went on to win several US National gold medals for his age group and then became the President of Rhode Island’s Senior Olympics. He received an Amby Smith award for his service to the state and in 2005, he was inducted into LaSalle Academy’s Hall of Fame.
